We founded EOS Costa Rica two years ago — before the release of EOS… and quickly realized this was a marathon, not a sprint. We were there before the genesis block was created. During this time, we learned a lot and believe now is the moment to share our journey.
The following is a list of six reasons why you should consider voting for EOS Costa Rica as a Block Producer. With your vote, we pledge to continue adding value to the EOS community. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
1. A Long History in Emerging Technologies
EOS Costa Rica is a spinoff of a company with over three decades of developing technologies — Sistemas Edenia Internacional. During the 80s, we launched the first BBS (bulletin board service) in the country, which was a precursor to the internet. Later on, the company shifted to educating new users on how to use the email and browse the web. Then, we started offering internet infrastructure, hosting, and development services.
In 2013, we began providing infrastructure for public blockchain networks and learned first-hand how blockchains work. Then, in 2018 when EOSIO was launched, we investigated the advantages of this technology and started learning how to deploy it in the real world. We were there during the genesis of the EOS Mainnet and will continue to be there throughout its growth.
2. A Stellar Team
We strive to recruit the best candidates. We have assembled a Latin American team with a problem-solving mindset and expertise in their areas of knowledge. Our team operates in an Agile environment that encourages participation, self-accountability, and innovation. Moreover, we are a distributed team, which gives us the chance to work from anywhere in the world.
We make a concerted effort to hire talent outside of urban areas to support tech careers in rural areas. We are proud to have team members from all over Costa Rica. Moreover, we also offer internship programs and have good relationships with technical universities. We are especially proud of the relationship we are building to bring in interns from the TEC University in Limon, a more remote province in Costa Rica. Also, we have established relationships with Stanford University through its GMIX internship program.

At EOS Costa Rica, our job is not a job. It’s a way of life. For instance, we organize a yearly team-building event called EOSurf. EOSurf is a team-building event where we take “our office” to the beach and encourage the teammates to take surfing lessons and engage in yoga and meditation sessions. The results of these are amazing. It allows us to ideate new solutions and to discuss the future of our work as a team.
3. Projects Worth Noting
Recently made public, we are working with a leading global accounting and consulting firm where we deploy EOSIO technology for enterprise use. We are also developing solutions for the logistics industry and government entities that we will be able to talk about soon.
Moreover, we develop and support open-source projects such as EOS Rate, which was released this month. EOS Rate is an open-source dapp (decentralized app) that allows EOS token holders to access a rating system and voting portal for BPs (Block Producers) and Proxies in the EOS Mainnet. EOS Rate intends to make it easier for the token holders to make an informed decision when voting for BPs. Read more about it here. You can access our Github here.
Additionally, we are currently co-developing a regional EOSIO network. LatamLink is a voluntary regional alliance led by Latin American technology companies interested in the development of the LACChain network ecosystem. The purpose of LatamLink is to offer an EOSIO-based testnet to highlight the benefits of this platform. LACChain is an initiative of IDB Lab (part of the Inter-American Development Bank) whose purpose is to accompany and accelerate the development of the blockchain ecosystem in Latin America.
Furthermore, we are part of the EOS Foundation proof of concept. EOS Foundation is an autonomous, decentralized, non-profit organization that will enable self-representation and promotion of the EOS community. Currently, the website is live as a proof of concept.
4. A Business Development Approach
EOS Costa Rica’s marketing and business development team is working very hard to grow a pipeline of leads in the region. We constantly seek new business opportunities and make a continuous effort to educate executives in both the public and private sectors about the EOSIO protocol and blockchain technology. So far, we have had the chance to forge strategic relationships, develop proofs of concept, seal partnerships with government institutions, and are currently negotiating several commercial contracts.
Further, we offer executive courses and specialized webinars. These webinars, called “Café Blockchain,” are invited-only conferences attended by government officials and private sector executives to showcase this technology. 5. Strong Community Building
We are part of local and global ecosystems. In Costa Rica, we are leading EOSIO adoption and actively promote the protocol. In the international landscape, part of the team attends the EOS Conferences and other EOS related events. We like to keep conversations flowing in Telegram groups and other platforms. Also, we attended Block.one official events such as #B1June, London Blockchain Hackathon, and EOS Global Hackathon in San Francisco.
Additionally, we participate in the local blockchain community. For instance, we are part of the Blockchain Association of Costa Rica, which leads to conversations about this technology. In 2019, we were co-organizers of the first congress on blockchain in the country called “Ticoblockchain,” attended by more than two hundred people.
Moreover, we have organized meetups, participated in several panels and conferences, and made appearances in the media. We also have a content strategy, regularly publish blog posts and articles, and keep our social media accounts active to continue promoting the technology.
Furthermore, we host weekly AMA sessions known as “EOS Open Office,” in which we open our virtual office for one hour for people outside of the company to interact with one of our team members. These sessions have allowed us to grow our reach and engage in relevant conversations. We also host weekly Open-Source Calls as ideation and team-building sessions.
6. Costa Rica Has a Lot to Offer
We are the first EOS block producer candidate in Central America and one of the few in Latin America. We believe that Costa Rica’s features can be an excellent asset for aggregating diversity to the EOS network. For instance, Costa Rica has great political stability, and Latin America’s longest-standing democracy. The country abolished its army in 1948 and today stands as a country that advocates for peace and liberty. It also pledges respect to Human Rights. In fact, Costa Rica is home to the Inter-American Human Rights Institute head-quarters.
Additionally, its technical infrastructure, stable political framework, flexible corporate structure, and defined jurisdiction makes it an opportunistic network available for the censorship-resistant EOS. Costa Rica is also becoming a tech hub, where large companies have established operations. The country also stands out for promoting eco-friendly development. This small country houses more than 4% of the total world biodiversity, and more than 26% of its territory is protected areas.
Moreover, Costa Rica’s strategic location in the middle of the two Americas and has shores in both the Pacific and Atlantic. It connects three submarine fiber optic cables — ARCOS-1, MAYA-1, and Pan American Crossing (PAC) — that provide the majority bandwidth. This interconnection provides real-time fail-over and redundancy to the EOS Costa Rica infrastructure. Costa Rica is part of the six Central American nations interconnected via a terrestrial fiber-optic network (REDCA). Additionally, having direct connections to all upstream carriers allows the country’s network to prevent single-point failures.
Takeaways
During these past two years, we have learned a lot about deploying the EOSIO blockchain, especially for enterprise use. We are thrilled to imagine all the possibilities this technology might bring to society in the near future. We are working hard and consistently to promote it for business and government environments. In conclusion, we are a company with clear values, strong relationships in the region, and hopefully a bright future willing to support the EOSIO ecosystem for the long haul.
